The REALTOR® Party Political Survival Initiative: Let Us Hear From You

Important Information for NAR Members About Our Political Survival

In March 2011, NAR launched the REALTOR® Party Political Survival Initiative. The initiative is a bold and powerful proposal to make the Voice of Real Estate one of the most influential advocacy groups in America.

There are monumental issues we're facing — in Congress, in the regulatory agencies here in Washington that govern mortgage financing, in your statehouse that’s faced with critical budget crises and declining property tax revenues, and in our municipalities and counties. Each of these issues impact our ability to do business and serve clients. We must act as one to ensure the future of mortgage financing and to keep housing affordable in America. We must have the power to shape this pivotal moment for the American Dream of Home Ownership everywhere and at every level of government.

To fund such a nationwide effort, the REALTOR® Party Political Survival Initiative proposes a dedicated dues increase of $40. Because it is "dedicated" to this initiative, the dues increase would be used exclusively to fund political advocacy efforts. Nearly 70 percent of this money is earmarked for state and local issues. If it is approved, over 50 percent of the NAR budget would be devoted to political advocacy, which consistently ranks among members as the number-one benefit they receive from NAR.

The proposal will be voted on by the NAR Board of Directors at the Midyear Legislative Meetings & Trade Expo in May.

A healthy economy is imperative if we are to have a rebound in the housing market..........THE CURRENT ADMINISTRATION HAS DONE LITTLE TO HELP........AND MUCH TO HURT OUR ENTIRE ECONOMY.........I will not contribute a single cent when I know that some of my money from the PAC will contribute to any political aspirations for the liberal political hacks that are doing so many things to harm the economy..........and I find it offensive that NAR continues to butter both sides of the bread......NAR needs to stand up for a strong economy that will do much more over the long haul for housing sales.....or stay out of my pockets............because........otherwise......we are part of the problem..........not part of the cure.....

The dues for NAR & local boards are to HIGH. The NAR & local board needs to reduce cost, not increase cost to members.

I do not want to partipate in any funding for political purposes and certainly don't want my dues to go toward any of it!! This should be voluntary, not mandatory. Advocacy groups are what is destroying our country. Putting money into the pockets of polititians to favor NAR, AARP, Unions or whatever group is corruption and I am totally against it.

Don't raise the dues. If agents are that intense about the necessity of this then let them contribute more to RPAC. Same result and the political folly stays out of the required dues.

I was against all this because I was listening to the wrong people. I have since watched the video, spoke with many others and realized that this $40 needs to happen now. I still want the ad campaign as I feel it is needed and this just makes sense. I ask all those that just can't quite see the $40 to relook and study before jumping to conclusion that it isn't good. I thank my directors to voting for this.

I say go for it and I am willing to pay more to clean out our negative members. They need to be licensees and then we will all be better off! Yes to $40 and yes to get rid of those that don't want to pay!!!!

I do not understand all the negative feedback in regards to the increase in the cost of doing business. I really feel that those have not even taken one look at one this is all about but only look at the "THINKING" they know everything. I am disgusted to read some of the terrible things which have been said about the leadership of the association. Leaders that give hours and hours of their time with no compensation but are always there to represent the members. Leaders that think hard and take to heart what will represent the members AND the property owners. Have you even visited with your local or state association to hear the true facts or is it better to form an opinion off those that don't have a clue? Will you please explain how you are going to tell your seller or buyers that you are darn right mad cuz the National Association of REALTORS raised your dues $40 to protect the rights of property owners and you aren't going to pay it?? Come on people this is about our business. This is about protecting and working for our clients/customers.We need to be heard and we need it now. I guess you can go work for the banks and be paid an hourly wage to list or sell and they get ALL the commission or perhaps not have any closings because the flood insurance was not extended. OR perhaps let your state bring in a realty transfer tax so your sellers can pay a percentage of the sales price to the state for selling their home, or the states can't fight in their legislative sessions subdivision laws,zoning or licensing laws? This is what it is about..it's not about what candidate is going to get a chunk of money. The NAR trustees decide that not leadership.It's not a "forceful" increase for RPAC. I only ask that you read,you listen and understand. Thank heavens the NAR directors are well informed people and are involved and elected to serve the position. I support $40 and I support NAR,the state association and the local association. We have the best and lets only get better. Thanks to all who serve,are involved and know the facts!

I totally support the $40 dues increase and feel fortunate that we have the leadership that understands and will take us down the journey that will continue to make our association strong and the best it can be. I also feel bad for the members that just don't understand the importance of this whole iniative. It's our industry, it's our business and our future. Can you look at the positive once in your life. Can you thank those that have represented us so many times so you could have a closing for that client that needed flood insurance, or the client that needed a 30 yr mortgage or the client that purchased for the mortgage interest deduction or perhaps got the tax credit for purchasing a home. We need to be heard in Washington and in each of our states.It takes money and it doesn't take whining about the cost to be in business. The only thing I see is all the members that are going to leave will only make that many more transactions for all the members that BELIEVE in NAR. The door is open, never has been closed..it's your decision but I say thanks NAR for EVERYTHING you do to help make our industry better and for the rights of property owners. I sure would like to see each one of the negative members explain to their clients that they disagreed with their National Association to protect the rights of property owners but oh yes please pay me my commission!!!!

Years ago we called paying off politicos "Payola". In short that is all this is. We cut checks and they are supposed to vote one way. Wait a minute does this mean they will not accept funds from opposing views? I would rather see dues increased to help a food bank or veterans groups then line the pockets of candidates who would gladly take funds from all sides. Enough!!! All that is missing is a brown envelope in a dark parking lot.

Selfish, Grandiose, Out-of-touch: that's what this proposal is. I am 110% against raising dues. I will vote against any board member who does support this. When are oragnizations going to learn that this money is wasted by the national office. The NAR is completely out of touch with what we are dealing with locally. Many times I disagree with the positions and candidates that our local boards supports. Why should I pay more for someone who is completely out of touch and does not represent realtors in the field? The NAR needs to clean up its own house with what they have already and become more useful to memebers at the grassroot level. I say not one more dime to you. I am willing to support my local and state boards first. From my perspective the national office does not return a bang for the buck. If I could access the MLS without being a member, its a no brainer. I would be out in a heartbeat.
